While "Rush Hour 3" wasn't able to attain the success of "Rush Hour 2," it was still good enough to take the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office as it took in $50.2 million on its opening weekend. "Rush Hour 2" launched with a much stronger $67.4 weekend in 2001. The six years between sequels could have been a problem for the franchise.
At least people have been able to see it here, as it was banned in China, as we talked about earlier this week.
"The Bourne Ultimatum" kept a decent, but not spectacular hold as it brought in $33.7 million to come in second place. The drop of 51 percent was still huge, but less than the many blockbusters this summer that dropped by around 60 percent or more on their second time around. "The Simpsons Movie" in contrast dropped a huge 66 percent for its second weekend.
Speaking of the Simpsons, they held on to take the third place spot for the weekend, reaching the $11 million mark. The plunge of 56 percent continues its trend from the second weekend. It probably won't be able to reach the $200 million mark domestically now. It looks like it is more faddish than a blockbuster.
