While the American Idol juggernaut has shown little signs of slowing down, Simon Cowell says he can't see himself going past a season 10 with the show. Cowell also works on The X Factor in the U.K., a similar show to the "Idol."
Cowell said in a statement: "I am contracted for another two or three seasons in Britain and I think by that point the public will be sick to death of me anyway and it will be time to go."
He doesn't rule out being part of the shows, just not in front of the cameras. "There has to come a point when I will step down from being on camera and remain behind the scenes because you can't keep doing this for ever."
Cowell has contracts for at least two more years on the X Factor and 3 years with American Idol. He figures after that it'll be over in front of the camera for him. Auditions are going on at this time for next seasons' American Idol hopefuls.
American Idol has been the launching pad for numerous careers for the participants, including Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
