Judd Apatow's production "Superbad" led the weekend box office as the drew a fairly strong $31.2 million for its opener. In the 2,949 venues it showed it, it averaged $10.583. This is Apatow Productions' second big comedy hit the summer, as their "Knocked Up" also had a strong performance for weeks, earlier this summer.
Rush Hour 3 continued the summer trend of having strong opening and plunging on its second time around. They came in second, earning $21.8 million over the weekend. That was a drop of 57 percent, in line with the other three-quels of the summer.
After a big drop last weekend, The Bourne Ultimatum was able to hold strongly for its third weekend, bringing in $19 million, for a drop of only 44 percent. This is a good sign that they'll probably be around for a number of weekends to come.
