The last couple of months haven't been the best for "24" as writers have asked for a delay in production while they try to work out a bunch of plot issues for the upcoming season. This is the second time in the last two months that production has been delayed. This time it has been dropped back from August 27 to September 10.
This time the delay is connected to not having enough scripts ready so shooting can begin on a seamless basis.
The first delay was connected to changing the entire set, which was scheduled for Africa, but was dropped because cost prohibited them from going forward with it.
Producers have said not long after last season they were going to change the Los Angeles setting of the story, and they maintain that is still going to hold, even after scrapping the Africa setting. They also said the cast would be shaken up again, as the only confirmed returning stars are Kiefer Sutherland playing Bauer and Mary Lynn Rajskub staying with her Chloe role.
Cherry Jones has been added to the cast, playing the new president Allison Taylor.
This will be an important year for the series, as usually at about the sixth season ratings start to plunge, and that happened with 24 last year. If they can change things enough to gather a larger audience, it'll be quite a coup for the production team. But that will be easier said than done.
It looks like they're struggling to make the changes needed to draw viewers back again.
