Weekend Box Office Top Ten

The number one film for the weekend box office was the family-friendly The Game Plan, which was able to bring in $22.7 million.

For Duane Johnson (The Rock), it was his strongest opener as a lead in his career. His former high was The Rundown in 2003, when it opened with $18.5 million.

The second place finisher was The Kingdom, starring Jammie Foxx, which was only able to reach the $17.7 million mark. When you consider the last counter-terrorism type of film Foxx starred in - Stealth - it looks like he doesn't resonate with viewers in this particular genre.

Third-place finisher Resident Evil: Extinction, dropped as expected by a huge 66 percent, only able to bring another $8 million to the cash register. These types of films, and Resident Evil specifically, always perform in this way, as after the first look the novelty immediately wears off.

The weekend box office top ten:

1The Game Plan$22,675,000
2The Kingdom$17,694,000
3Resident Evil: Extinction$8,000,000
4Good Luck Chuck$6,300,000
53:10 to Yuma (2007)$4,160,000
6The Brave One$3,760,000
7Mr. Woodcock$3,000,000
8Eastern Promises$2,892,000
9Sydney White$2,685,000
10Across the Universe$2,050,000
