
Actress Alice Ghostley, best known for her TV role of Esmerelda in Bewitched, died at the age of 81 from a long battle with colon cancer and a number of strokes.
Along with her role as Esmerelda, she played Bernice Clifton in Designing Women, where she received an Emmy nomination. She also won a Tony Award in 1965 for her role in Lorraine Hansberry's The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window.
A lesser known role was her part as Joy in the TV production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella where she played opposite Julie Andrews.
Ghostly is survived by her sister Gladys.
