HBO like what is saw in Second Life, as they bought the rights to "My Second Life: The video diaries of Molotov Alta," shot entirely in the virtual world.
According to film creator Douglas Gayeton, HBO paid a six-figure price for the rights. Gayeton says the documentary is scheduled for release sometime in 2008. Gayeton's avatar in the virtual world is "Molotov Alta."
The story is about a man who disappears from his home in California and starts to send video dispatches from Second Life.
Concerning the virtual world, Gayeton said, "You build visually rich, dense environments in an incredibly short amount of time, and you can work collaboratively using the tools of Second Life. It gives you an idea of how animation will look five years from now."
Hollywood is increasingly going to virtual worlds to create movie sets, which is called machinima. They have already exported the sets to be part of some of their regular TV series and even ads.
