Elton John is under investigation by police for possession of child pornography.
An explicit picture of two young girls posing in an inappropriate way, was removed from an exhibit at The Baltic Centre For Contemporary Art in Gateshead.
The photo was part of Elton John's private collection, being used in the Sir Elton John Photographic Collection, at the show.
Police are also investigating the art gallery to see if they've broken the law by including the photo.
When you consider the way these types of art shows push the envelope, this must have been a pretty bad picture.
"Klara and Edda belly-dancing, by Nan Goldin, shows two young girls playing together in front of a kitchen sink. One is skimpily dressed, the other is naked and lies beneath her, knees bent and legs splayed towards the camera. The image was seized by police from the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead last Thursday."
Incredibly, Elton John justified the picture with the argument it was done "by a respected photographer and had been published and exhibited widely."
Goldin basically takes pornographic photos under the guise of a documentary style and saying she simply takes photos of what's in front of her. Maybe she needs to learn to go places where this isn't in front of her.
If this ends up being child pornography, both John and Golding need to be prosecuted.
To say someone is well known for singing songs and taking photos, can be no defense against the evil inclusion of children in sexual positions being photographed as art, and keeping those photographs in your home collection. It would be sick.
