There was a lot of outrage as a 12-year-old model was chosen to front the prestigious Gold Coast Fashion Week in Australia, one of the top fashion shows in the world.
Maddison Gabriel, who was chosen to be the official ambassador of the production, has also appeared in outfits many feel are inappropriate for a girl of 12.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard rightly commented that "Catapulting girls as young as 12 into something like that is outrageous."
Howard called for a ban on models appearing before they're 16-years-old, a law that Europe currently has in place.
"There should be age limits, I mean there has to be, we do have to preserve some notion of innocence in our society," he said.
The moronic mother of the young lady defended the right to parade her daughter before people in this way, and when so far as to demand an apology from Howard.
"He does not know exactly what 13 and 14-year-old girls are like. I used to vote for him. We're trying to get our teenage daughters to act older. I am so happy that I've got a daughter who has got a good head on her shoulders," she said.
I wonder who the "we" are that want their daughters to act older? It's idiocy. You know this is a mother looking at the money her daughter will make and is exploiting her, like other parents have with celebrity children, to that end.
