The weekend box office continued its slow September, with the number one movie Resident Evil: Extinction bringing in a fair $24 million. It beat the last Resident Evil flim Apocalypse, which finished at $23 million for its opener in 2004, but didn't provide any bounce to this one.
Apocalypse also dropped a huge 62 percent the second time around, which Extinction will experience as well, and should make this a short run.
The horrible Good Luck Chuck ended up in the number two position this week, somehow managing to take in $14 million, something that surprised just about everybody, as reviews were terrible and the majority of post-viewing interviewees said they didn't like it. More than likely Jessica Alba fans give it the push. This will plunge next weekend.
Third place this weekend was The Brave One, which was last weeks number one film, which finished with $7.4 million, dropping 45 percent. It's disappointing because the first frame drew less than expected numbers.
