James Spader won the best actor award for his role in Boston Legal, as he won over sentimental favorite James Gandolfini of The Sopranos. Still, the Sopranos did garner another trophy as the top drama series for the year. One of several for the series.
Winning for best actress in a drama was Sally Field, as her strong role in Brothers & Sisters as the family matriarch helped her to win her third Emmy.
For her role in Ugly Betty, America Ferrera won the award for best actress in a comedy. The award for best actor in a comedy went to HBO's Ricky Gervais.
Terry O'Quinn won best supporting actor in a drama for his role in lost, while Katherine Heigl won best supporting actress in a drama for Grey's Anatomy.
