The one thing about celebrity we can all be sure of: it's fleeting. In the case of Tania Head, whose alleged survival at the World Trade Center brought her fame, compassion and respect, will now live out the rest of her life in disgrace, as it seems the entirety of the story she told was false.
Some of the things she alleged through the years, are she climbed down from the 78th floor of the World Trade Center, which would have made her only one of nineteen that accomplished that.
She also said she had a fiance that was lost in the collapse, although nobody in the family of the name she gave knows her in any way. Head even forgot her own story at times and called the man her husband rather than her fiance.
Another story she made up was being handed a wedding ring by a man that was dying, as he asked her to return it to the widow.
According to Merrill Lynch (MER), where she allegedly worked, there was no knowledge or record that she had ever been employed by the company.
Through all these stories, she helped found a nonprofit group called Survivor's Network, where she helped to raise money through her stories. She was removed as the group's president when the story broke.
While there's no proof she's made any money from her stories at this time, to fabricate an entire scenario which then moves people to contribute money is unethical at the least.
So much for Tania Head and her temporary celebrity status built on a tragedy that had real heroes.
