It was no surprise that the female version of Death Wish, "The Brave One," was only able to finish with $14 million for the weekend, although it was good enough to bring it the No. 1 spot. The Brave One ends Jody Foster's streak of opening strongly with her last few action movies.
Last weeks' winnner, 3:10 to Yuma, held strongly, dropping only by 35.1 percent to take second place, bringing in $9.15 million. The film has done pretty good for Lionsgate, earning $28.5 million after its first 10 days. Some think it has some potential to be considered for awards at the end of the year.
If the film can continue to drop slowly, it will keep it in the minds of people over a longer period of time, enhancing its award chances.
A new comedy starring Billy Bob Thornton finished third for the weekend, as Mr Woodcock earned $9.1 million, finishing just behind "Yuma."
