After a very public and lengthy battle with the German government to film at certain places within the country, Tom Cruise and United Artists have finally received permission for the final location site, where German hero Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who unsucessfully attempted to assassinate Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, was executed.
A lot of the problem centered around Cruise being a Scientologist, which Germany considers a cult only out to get money from its followers.
The movie "Valkyrie," will be able to have the execution scene filmed at the Benderblock, the site of von Stauffenberg's executed.
Franz Josef Jung, Germany's minister of defense, changed the decision saying the movie had portrayed the country in a positive light.
Jung's spokesman, Thomas Raabe, said the movie shows that "barbarism did not win, but rather a democratic Germany finally arose."
United Artists responded saying they would "take special care to respect its dignity and keep our activities there within the guidelines laid down by the government."
Valkyrie is directed by Bryan Singer.
