For the week ending September 2, Univision was the No. 1 network for all adults aged 18-34, outperforming Fox (NWS-A), NBC (GE), ABC (DIS) and CBS (CBS-A).
Executive Vice President and Operating Manager of the Univision Network, Alina Falcon boasted saying: "Taking the #1 spot for the first week of Nielsen's single sample NTI ratings, clearly demonstrates Univision's ability to compete head-to-head with any and all networks. Now with a single ratings source, advertisers can see, more easily than ever, just how important Univision can be as part of their overall media plans."
It's a nice little feather in Univision's cap, but as we talked about recently on bizofshowbiz, the networks had the lowest numbers in 20 years over that same week. The reason wasn't because of their television was worse, it was because they mostly ran repeats over that time period as they prepare for the fall season.
Even so, it's great to see Univision do pretty good, and they probably will gradually grow through the years and become a major competitor.
In the not-too-distant future, they may own the 18-34 demographic because the Hispanic population trends young.
