In an Ipsos poll for AOL Television and The Associated Press, it was found that 62 percent of Americans say programming on television is getting worse. Only a small 22 percent said it's getting better.
Another result of the poll that may not bode well for the industry, is only 7 percent of people could name a show they're looking forward to seeing this fall.
Other findings were 71 percent of reponders think there are far too many reality shows on the tube, although it's an improvement over the 80 percent who thought that in a 2005 AP-TV Guide poll.
One specific response was 9 percent felt "Survivor" is the program they would most like to see canceled this year. Oops CBS (CBS-A).
While results from the poll showed negative respondents were older, midwesterner and White evangelical Christians, that doesn't account for the huge 62 percent number.
If the industry attempts to make themselves feel good by making it look like a political demographic, rather than an overall trend, that's fine. But when you hear the 62 percent number, I would take a serious look if I was them.
