Vanessa Hudgens responded to the controversy surrounding her posing nude for photos that found their way to the Internet by apologizing to her fans.
Like we've talked about on several sites here, Hudgens had a decision to make on which way she wants to be branded in the entertainment world.
From her response, it looks like she wants to regain her wholesome image, although it's too late for that.
"I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust mean the world to me," the 18-year-old High School Musical star said in a statement to E! News. "I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends."
Jill Fritzo, Hudgens' representative said that rumors Disney is abandoning her from the High School Musical franchise are not true.
It looks like Disney may be sticking with her, as spokeswoman for the network, Patti McTeague said, "Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment. We hope she's learned a valuable lesson."
With the core age of the audience being served, I wouldn't count on this being a for sure thing yet. There'll be a lot of talks about whether Vanessa will go on with the franchise before a decision is made.
The problem for Disney now is if moms and dads will want their children to interact with Hudgens new persona. In other words, will the abandon the franchise in large numbers, and will it tarnish Disney's brand to keep her in the production? Nobody will probably get that answer until the final decision is made whether to keep her or not by Disney.
Judging from comments around the Internet, there's been a lot of anger and disgust over what Hudgens has done. The question is if fans will forgive and forget, or want someone else to replace her. The other unknown is who Hudgens really is. Now that she's 18, is who she is coming out through these pictures? Is that the direction she's wanting to take? If it is, Disney is playing with fire by retaining her.
Another problem is if Hudgens ends up doing some other stupid thing in the meantime. There are a lot of unknowns that make what to do with Hudgens by Disney a difficult decision.
Suddenly turning up on the Internet in x-rated pictures is not something that the majority of celebrities do. It's hard to know now if Vanessa is stable or a runaway train wreck.

I really think that her appology should be enough, because even though it was a bad choice to take those photos, she did apologize and those pictures were taken PRIVATELY and should never have been released to the public.
