Keeping with the Halloween season, the box office reflected that interest, as Sam Raimi's (Spider-Man) "30 Days of Night" ended in the No. 1 position, taking in $16 million.
Last years horror movie performance was much better than this years, as most opened at around $15 million, with a number a $19 million and four opening over $20 million. This year only Rob Zombie's "Halloween" has opened over $20 million, unless you want to count John Cusack's "1408" as a horror film, which opened as $20.6 million.
The second-lace finisher this week is Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married?," which was last week's top film. It finished with a decent $12.1 million, which was a drop of 43 percent. That's better than other Perry second weekend showings, which have tended to drop by 50 percent or more in his past films.
Topping of the leading three weekend movies was "The Game Plan," starring The Rock, earning a solid $8.1 million in its fourth time around. A lack of family films has helped this to hold strong. It only dropped by 26 percent this week. It's almost at the $70 million mark, and could end up at the $100 million mark.
