Citing a report from the National Enquirer, Ann Coulter, the nemesis of John Edwards and others of the liberal persuasion, mentioned a story that Edwards had been having an affair over an 18-month period while he was on the campaign trail. She mentioned it at the end of an interview on "Tucker."
Here's how the "Enquirer" reported it:
"A source close to the woman, whose name is being withheld by The NATIONAL ENQUIRER, says that she confessed to having an affair in phone calls and emails, saying that her work with Edwards soon exploded into romance. The shocking allegation — if proven true — could devastate the Democratic hopeful's campaign, especially because John's devoted wife Elizabeth is locked in a desperate battle with breast cancer."
The Enquirer claims most of their information was received from emails and phone conversations with a friend she told about it.
According to that friend, "As the affair went on, she said that both she and John began to feel real guilty and they decided to end it." Wasn't that nice of them?
It does make one wonder if any of the fading mainstream media sources will pursue this story. With Hillary getting some possible benefit out of it, it many happen in some form.
After Edwards had his wifey bushwack Coulter on Hardball, it had to be a little satisfying to pass on the alleged incident.
An Edwards' spokesman says the allegations concerning the affair are "false, absolute nonsense."

Coulter does nothing to improve her credibility (at least with me) by citing articles from tabloids. Even if it is true, who believes anything in the National Enquirer? Come on...
