"Awake" Doesn't Look Like it'll Put You to Sleep

With an intense storyline, and some popular actors, including Hayden Christensen, Jessica Alba, Lena Olin and Terrence Howard, "Awake" has a chance to draw some interest.

One of the problems, as pointed out here, is the major characters are younger, and it doesn't look like there will be much as far as special effects go. That could cause a problem with both younger and older moviegoers, not sure if it will fit their interests.

Of course the "R" rating itself will keep a number of people away. It seems to me the story could have been told in its existing intense way, but still have kept out the "R" rating, which will limit its reach.

Overall the story seems compelling, and could draw a similar crowd that likes horror or thriller type movies. The fact that the storyline is told while laying on an operating table, could make some think of it as slow moving and not too compelling; even though this trailer seems to suggest otherwise.

"Awake" Trailer

The premise of the film is a young man will undergo heart surgery, but while under anesthesia, he can hear everything being spoken while being operated on, and that is that they are going to kill him and plunder his fortune. While he's in that state, he's trying to communicate what's going on to his fiancee, who is played by Alba. Terrence Howard plays one of the operating doctors.

It looks like a lot of the success of this will depend on the remainder of its marketing push, and how they attempt to push it out to the public.

The trailer, is pretty well done, and does make you want to find out more about it, and possibly go see it.

The Weinstein film, directed by Joby Harold, will be released November 30, 2007.

Thrillers are either painfully boring or nail bitingly suspenseful. From the trailer, I think I want to see this movie but it does look like it could go either way.
