Following up on the confession of track star Marion Jones and her use of steroids, during and after the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, she has now returned the five medals awarded her.
Attorney of Jones, Henry DePippo announced, "She has returned the medals. She's not going to comment on the matter while it's pending in court but the medals were returned today."
In her appearance in a federal court on Friday, Jones acknowledged she had taken steroids during that period of time. Jones had vehemently denied for years she had used the substance. There was also a plea of guilty on two counts of obstruction of justice for lying to federal agents concerning this in the past.
Jones said after the court appearance: "I want you to know that I have been dishonest and you have the right to be angry with me. I have let (my family) down, I have let my country down and I have let myself down,"
The extended problem is two of the medals Jones won, which included a gold and bronze when she was on the four-woman relay team. The other team members could lose their medals as well as a result of Jones' actions.

This is very disapointing but anyone can be prone to cheating including celebrities. This is part of the problem with elevating people to role model status just because they are un the spotlight.
