
Melinda England, the teacher who decided to put her partially nude photos up on MySpace and other web sites, has caused the school district she lives in to come under fire for her behavior; and rightfully so.
Just the fact that she didn't show any common sense or professionalism concerning putting something like that up on the Internet, makes it scary to think of her teaching children in America. Even children are learning anything they put up on the Internet could be viewed by anyone with an Internet in the world.
The Internet, for better or worse, is creating a new type of celebrity: the user.
We need to understand that this new world exists, and we could be an Internet celebrity in a way we don't want to if we're not careful. The recent case of nude Vanessa Hudgens photos has revealed how it can become a huge issue and a potential career destroyer if we're not careful.
The new celebrity can now be you. The problem is can be used for or against you, depending on what it is you put online.
The new world is now everybody is a brand. That brand now must be lived consistently if we want to maintain it. Melinda England has went outside her brand, and will probably pay the price. Welcome to the new world where everybody can be a celebrity!
