This year both the children and adults are finding inspiration for their choice of Halloween costumes from films and television shows.
For young people, the Hanna Montana and High School Musical costumes have been flying out the doors of businesses. Another big seller, for both adults and children has been anything related to Transformers.
The old classics like Spiderman, Superman and Batman has remained strong sellers as well this year for young boys.
For adult men, the movie "300" has been a major influence this year, and adding a lot of accessories like swords, spears and shin guards has been a big thing. Hey, who says guys don't accessorize?
For both adult men and women, Pirates of the Caribbean has been a key motivator to dress up like a pirate, as people buy costumes to look like their favorite swashbucklers.
What's interesting about the Halloween season, is it has increasingly expanded from primarily a children-focused day, to one where adults really get into it. This is one of the reasons it's becoming one of the biggest retail seasons of the year.
For Hollywood, they'll be glad to get the residuals from the strong Halloween sales based on their licensed characters.
