Naomi Watts has been chosen to star in the remake of Alfred Hitchcock thriller "The Birds." She'll play the role of Melanie Daniels, originally played by Tippi Hedren.
Watts is the first actress or actor to sign on for a role in the film, which Martin Campbell, the Casino Royale director, is in negotiations to helm.
The story is based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier, which tells the story of a flock of birds attacking the inhabitants of a quiet California town on the coast.
The starlet was last seen in David Cronenberg's "Eastern Promises," and also starred in "King Kong" by Peter Jackson, and was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "21 Grams."
