
The rampaging California hasn't left the Hollywood and celebrity community unscathed, as some projects had to be put on hold or changed to new locations. A number of celebrities have also had to be evacuated.
Overall, as of about 8:30 a.m. PST, over 1,300 homes had been destroyed, 100 businesses and 80 other buildings. There was some damage to another 400 buildings or homes. Another 7,200 homes, 2,400 businesses and 450 additional properties are in danger, said the state fire protection agency. So far there has been one death and 38 injuries attributed to the blaze.
Fox (NWS-A) had to stop its shooting on "24," due smoke from the Santiago fire, while filming at a Marine Corps air station in Irvine, approximately 40 miles
southeast of LA.
Others like CBS (CBS-A) and ABC (DIS) also had to cancel filming of some shows, as "Cold Case" and "Big Shots" had to stop filming or change locations. With "Cold Case," the sets were blown over by strong winds in the area.
Some of the celebrities that had to be evacuated in the Malibu area included Mel Gibson and Victoria Principal. Others living in the area are Rita Wilson, Jennifer Anniston, Tom Hanks and Sting.
On well known home called Castle Kashan, used for a number of shoots, was destroyed. It was owned by Lilly Lawrence, a philanthropist and socialite.
David Geffen, who works in the film and music industry, opened his Malibu Beach Inn to those fighting the fires and rescue workers.
