Marion Jones, who was considered the great woman athelete in the world in her prime, has admitted to using steroids before the 2000 Olympics, says the Washington Post.
The Post, cited a letter Jones sent to her family and friends where she told them she had used the substance before the 2000 games in Sydney. Also in the letter Jones said she used a substance developed in the infamous Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative (BALCO).
Jones will appear before a federal court in White Plains, New York, on Friday, for lying to a federal agent concerning her use.
In a federal investigation of BALCO and other athletes, Jones was asked if she used the steroid, and she denied it.
Jones added that her coach Trevor Graham was the one that gave her the banned substance, saying it was flaxseed oil. I hope for Marion's sake she is telling the truth there, for it is almost word for word what Barry Bonds said in the past concerning his steroid use.
Jones could receive up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for lying to a federal agent. She seems to feel the most she'll get is a 6 month sentence, and others have reported she may receive no sentence at all.
There are other problems Jones has as well, as she will plead guilty to lying about a $25,000 check she received from Tim Montgomery, another track athlete that fathered her son, in an unrelated case concerning bank fraud and money-laundering.
Unfortunately for Jones, she's losing all credibility.
