Fox has issued a confirmation that May 1, 2009 will be the release date for its X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
It also looks like Liev Schreiber will play the role of a young William Stryker, the chief enemy of Wolverine, who was destroyed in X2: X-Men United.
The film will examine the story behind Logan's involvement in the top secret Weapon X program of Stryker, which created Wolverine and his powers. Logan will also attempt to make Victor Creed, who killed his girlfriend, pay. Creed is the character who becomes Sabertooth, a powerful villain.
Hugh Jackman and partner John Palermo will produce Wolverine throught their company, Seed Productions. Also producing will be Ralph Winter and Lauren Donner. Marvel's Kevin Feige will be the executive producer.
Directing the production will be Rendition's Gavin Hood. Shooting is scheduled to start sometime later this year.
