In an interview on ABC's "This Week," Ashley Judd talked about the upcoming special "India's Hidden Plague," which explores the growing problem of the disease in India.
"It's very real and it's real stories and real heartache and also real opportunity to focus on a solution that is very cost effective and has an extraordinarily meaningful impact in the lives of young people," Judd said.
The actress added that it costs about $10 to educate someone about the risks and protect an individual for a year, which she says is the best way to battle the problem.
Judd, who is the YouthAIDS Global Ambassador, traveled with Bollywood stars Sushmita Sen, Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan to look at the ways HIV migrates from high-risk groups to eventually infect the general population. They also explore why young women especially are at an increasing risk to get the disease.
The group toured various high-risk groups and areas like brothels, truck stops and slum across various demographics in India to get a big picture of what's going on in the country and what can be done to slow it down.
Ashley Judd has also joined Salma Hayek in the past in another documentary film called "Confronting the Pandemic," where they looked at the to combat AIDS in Central America.
The National Geographic Channel will premiere "India's Hidden Plague" on November 30.
