After two straight disastrous weekends at the box office, it finally got unwound again, as it finally managed to break the $100 million mark in the top twelve films, after failing to in the previous two.
Audiences have warmed strongly to Disney's latest offering "Enchanted," as it has kept building on its Thanksgiving release to end the weekend easily in the No. 1 position, ending with an estimated $35.3 million for the three days. It's already passed the $50 million mark.
Enchanted enjoyed a wide release, with the film being seen at 3,730 venues, averaging $9,472 per showing.
The second-place finisher this weekend, and a surprise to most, is "This Christmas," which while being released at about half the theaters that Enchanted was, managed to have a higher average per showing than the No. 1 film. It finished with a $10,010 average per showing.
Beowulf ended in third place this weekend, dropping 41 percent from last weekend. It ended up reaching the $16.2 million mark.
The Paramount distributed film cost about $150 million to make, and may struggle to get that back domestically, as it's brought in $56.4 million so far, and shows some signs of weakening.
