In an attempt to boost ratings and maybe save the show, ER is returning Gloria Reuben to the cast as Jeanie Boulet, a somewhat controversial character who was HIV-positive in the show. It's been eight years since Reuben's character had left the show.
Many fans of the show are concerned this will be the last season of ER, and with the writers' strike, are hoping it will be brought back for another season to bring back characters to tie up all the loose ends.
John Stamos said concerning that hope: "This could nudge another season out of ER. People have invested 14 years of their lives to this show and I feel they need a full season to end the show and wrap it up nice (and) bring back some characters."
With the show focusing on a younger crowd, older viewers have stopped watching it. They hope Reuben's return will draw back many of the original fans of the show; possibly giving it a better chance to go one more season.
For the show itself, Reuben's character will return in the midst of concerns her son's HIV has now developed into full-blown aids.
Rueben is one of the original cast members of the medical drama.
