An announcement Monday by FX network that they were going to bring back "Damages" for at least another two seasons was great news for fans of the legal thriller.
There was a lot of uncertainty about returning the show, as its fan base was completely committed to it, but never grew to real large numbers. It also had a high percentage of viewers watching on a DVR (22 percent), which made it less appealing to advertisers.
FX president John Landgraf said concerning renewing the series, "It's a show whose creative reputation is destined to grow with time. There's a possibility that people will catch up with the show on DVD in the offseason. Many people just might feel they missed something, since word-of-mouth is so strong."
A number of critically acclaimed series in the past have gotten their legs in a similar fashion, as Landgraf is hoping "Damages" will.
Landgraf added that the potential for winning some awards and ending up on some Top 10 lists could get more people interested in seeing what it's all about.
The people I've heard comment on it really think it's a great show, and is one of the must-see shows of the week for them.
The next two seasons will feature 13 episodes each.
