If the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Council recommendations are followed, Marion Jones will be required to return her Olympic medals.
The IAAF also formerly disqualified Jones from all the events she participated in from September 1, 2000 and on.
Unfortunately, her teammates in the U.S. women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams have also been recommended to be disqualified by the organization to the International Olympic Committee. They also said the IOC should "...insist on the return of all medals and diplomas.”
Jones, who declared bankruptcy earlier this year, will also be requested to pay back the approximate $700,000 she won in competitions during that time period.
IAAF General Secretary Pierre Weiss "We will ask for the money to be paid back." He added that no prize money will be rewarded to those that will be moved up in the standings until Jones returns the owed cash.
Jones is also facing criminal charges and could receive up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for lying to a federal agent. She has confessed to lying to investigators and has pleaded guilty to the charges. Sentencing is set for January.
