Jerry Seinfeld and the "Bee Movie" turned the tables on "American Gangster" and took the No. 1 spot for the weekend box office. The estimated total is $26 million for its second time around.
As expected "Bee Movie" held much stronger, in contrast to "American Gangster," as family-friendly movies always do. Even so, it's not that common for a movie to finish second its opener, and then climb to No. 1 the next week. The last movie to do that was "Wedding Crashers" in 2005.
When you consider the competition of "Fred Claus," which had to take some audience from "Bee Movie," it wasn't a bad performance, only dropping by 32 percent from its opener.
Finishing in second was last weeks' first place finisher "American Ganster," which dropped to $24.3 million. For an R-rated movie that's actually a pretty strong hold, equaling a 44 percent decline.
"Fred Claus" was the top new release movie this weekend, ending in third place with a respectable $19.2 million. Similar to "Bee Movie," it was made for the long-term family and holiday crowd.
Fourth place finisher "Lions for Lambs," like all the war movies trying to make the military look bad was rejected by audiences, only drawing puny $6.7 million. This one will fade fast: thankfully.
The top ten for the weekend:

| 2 | American Gangster | $24,319,000 |
