Moby says he's offering independent filmmakers a chance to use his music for free in their video productions.
He says on his web site, Mobygratis.com in the "film music" section that it "is for independent and non-profit filmmakers, film students, and anyone in need of free music for their independent, non-profit film, video, or short.
"You can then listen to the available music and download whatever you want to use in your film or video or short.
the music is free as long as it's being used in a non-commercial or non-profit film, video, or short."
He says the initiative comes from hearing his friends who are also indie filmmakers that they either don't get calls returned from record companies when wanting to use music for their productions, or their licensing costs are too high to be practical.
For those that want to use his music in a commercial film, he says they can apply for a license easily and the money generated that he receives will be turned over to the humane society.
You can hear his music in the upcoming release of "Southland Tales," directed by Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko), due out November 14, 2007.
