A New York Post report says in one of the strongest moves since the Writers Guild started its strike, NBC (GE) has fired "nearly the entire production staff" of the former powerhouse "Saturday Night Live."
Citing more than one unnamed source close to the situation, the Post said confirmation has come that 90 percent of the SNL staff was fired. It was also said that there is no severance pay for the SNL workers. This wasn't relegated to new workers, as employees with the company for a long period of time were also let go.
Yesterday a report also said that NBC may be looking at axing staff members from Jay Leno's "Tonight" show, "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" and "Last Call With Carson Daly." If that happens, those workers will get paid for another two weeks.
The Post added that host for the CBS (CBS-A) "Late Show" David Letterman has told his people that he will pay them from his own funds if the strike continues through the holidays.
