The mother of the late Anna Nicole Smith has filed a lawsuit against CBS Studios Inc., a Houston TV station - KPRC and Howard K. Stern, alleging libel for a broadcast aired a week after Smith died.
Virgie Arthur claims that CBS (CBS-A), Stern and KPRC have hurt her reputation and resulted in making it harder for her to get custody or visitation rights to her grandaughter, Dannielynn.
The lawsuit is based on an interview where Smith appeared on Entertainment Tonight and asserted Arther complicit in abuse she received in her childhood: both physical and sexual.
Arthur also claims the that the three named in the suit ruined her reputation as a "caring, honest and law-abiding retired peace officer."
The original suit was filed last month but was transferred to Houston federal court from Harris County district court.
KPRC says they have been wrongly included in the suit as they simply aired the satellite feed and had no part in the production or content of the show.
