If the results from a far-from-conservative instititution - Harvard - had been found to be in favor of the Republicans, like it has been with the Democrats, the Democrats would have been screaming.
Now in an unbelievable finding, a joint survey by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard's Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy, found that coverage of this presidential race is extraordinarily bias toward Democrats, in every area of the media, even talk radio. It included television and newspapers in the survey, along with radio.
Not only was it in the amount of coverage, but in the way the parties were covered, that was overwhelmingly bias as well.
One example is in morning news shows, which irresponsibly had 51 percent of their stories covering Democrat candidates, while only 27 percent covered Republicans.
Yet that wasn't even the worst of it. Newspapers were found in their front-page coverage, to have a positive outlook on Democrats at a six times the rate they did on Rebublicans. It's one reason why the industry is dying. Even Democrats get tired of listening to writers pat each other on the back in a boring way that isn't compelling to anyone.
By candidate, both Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama received huge numbers of stories in a positive light: "Obama's front page coverage was 70% positive and 9% negative, and Clinton's was similarly 61% positive and 13% negative."
For Republicans, only about 25 percent of stories were positive, while 40 percent were totally negative.
Over 70 percent of newspapers focused on the game of politics, and not on issues that were important to people. Television also had this trend, with only 10 percent of stories talking on issues.
Television also was horrible on Republicans, as of the 154 stories surveyed on the evening network news shows, Democrats received positive coverage twice as much as negative, while Republicans had under 20 percent of stories in a positive light, while negativity was also twice as much as it was in coverage of Democrats.
Even cable news stories were more negative on Republicans, as over 30 percent were negative, while Democrats had only 25 percent in a negative light.
To show how what is considered conservative media is much more accurate and fair, talk radio coverage on conservative shows had Obama getting more positive coverage than even Rudy Giuliani.
