If you haven't heard about it yet, Fox (NWS-A) has picked up a reality show where people will be asked extremely difficult questions whose accuracy will be measured by a polygraph test and a certified polygraph examiner.
The way Fox will operate the show is contestants will be given 75 questions to answer while being hooked up to a polygraph machine. The certified polygraph examiner will determine if the questions' answers are true or not.
Several days after the test, the contestant is then put on the show, without knowing the results of the answers they gave privately. From there, 21 of the 75 questions asked are repeated before a live audience which will include the family and friends of the participant. You can see the possibilities in this type of situation.
Another interesting inclusion to the game is a button where family and friends can "rescue" the contestant from a difficult question. Of course that becomes fun, because the participants don't really try to rescue the one being questioned, but end up pushing the button when the question could potentially embarass or reveal something about them.
Mike Darnell, president of alternative entertainment for Fox says “The game is an illusion, it’s a mechanism. By the time a participant is done, you feel like you know all about them. It’s like doing a dysfunctional family documentary in 20 minutes. All the secrets come out. All the lies come out.”
Darnell added that the show is going to be a great hit. “This is going to be the talk of the town and knocked out of the park. You’re either going to love it, or think it’s the end of Western civilization. And that’s the stuff that works,” said Darnell.
With the obvious potential for lawsuits, all participants must sign an agreement to go with the conclusion reached by the certified polygraph examiner.
This should be an intense and compelling show to watch.
