Sean Taylor is in critical condition after being shot in the leg in an early Monday-morning incident at his home.
Reports are Taylor was shot after confronting burglars in his home, said his lawyer Richard Sharpstein, and was bleeding from a wound to the leg when police responding to the incident found him.
According to Washington Redskins coach, Joe Gibbs, last week Taylor also missed a meeting as a result of an attempted break-in as well.
Taylor was an All-American at the University of Miami and also the defensive player of the year in the Big East Conference. In 2006 he was named to the Pro Bowl, leading the Redskins in tackles with 129. He was selected 5th in the 2004 draft.
Taylor has struggled with personal problems during his career, as he has been fined from a situation where he supposedly pointed a gun at someone over a confrontation over some stolen property. He received 18 months probation after pleading no contest to the charges. He was also fined $72,000 by the NFL over the incident.
He was also fined for spitting in the face of an opponent in a game against Tampa Bay in 2006. The NFL fined him $17,000 for that situation.
