
The lone gunman who shot and killed eight people in Nebraska's largest mall, before taking his own life, left a suicide note saying he wanted to "go out in style." As of this writing, five other people were known to have been injured, with two in critical condition.
The gunman was identified by a confidential law enforcement source as Robert A. Hawkins, either age 19 or 20. He was dressed in a green Army vest.
Shooting from a third floor balcony, he opened fire on the Christmas shoppers.
Owned by General Growth Properties, the Westroads Mall is the largest in Nebraska, getting 14.5 million visitors a year.
