You can't think of Pearl Harbor and World War II, without thinking of the old Hollywood that had those among them that cared about their country.
Some examples of past big stars that didn't hesitate to join the armed forces to serve their country are Clark Gable, Henry Fonda, Eddie Albert, Tyrone Power and Douglas Fairbanks. Some of these guys didn't just join, they were rewarded with high honors, like Fonda who was awarded the Bronze Star; Albert was also awarded the Bronze Star; and Douglas Fairbanks the Silver Star.
Band director and actor Glenn Miller lost his life after working hard to get into the armed forces to serve, after being originally turned down for being too old. He and his band appeared in 1941's, Sun Valley Serenade and 1942's Orchestra Wives. He was on his way to perform for troops in Paris, who had helped recently liberate the city, when his plane went down. It has never been found.
Of course you also have Bob Hope, who wasn't afraid to entertain and encourage the troops, whether the war was popular with the general population or not. He entertained the troops in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and during the Persian Gulf War, and was involved with the USO for 50 years.
One person who has unashamedly been patriotic during this time is Gary Sinise, who performs through his Lt. Dan Band for the United Service Organizations (USO) and also is heavily involved with Operation Iraqi Children. He has also donated his own money to support a veterans hospital.
Another actress who's went to Iraq has been Traylor Howard, who visited with the USO in support of the troops. She's blasted Hollywood for the refusal to get more involved.
On Pearl Harbor Day it's a good thing to remember that there had been at one time a group of actors that considered patriotism and service to their country of great value. It's also good to see that not everyone in Hollywood rejects the great sacrifice and service the armed forces of America represent.
