In what will become another venture by Peter Jackson into performance-capture technology, he is again turning to his friend Andy Serkis to play a key part in a film series, based on a Belgian cartoon character named Tintin.
Serkis was used in "The Lord of the Rings" to perform the action and expressions of Gollum, as well as playing Kong in Jackson's rendition of the giant gorilla.
Word is that Serkis won't be playing the part of Tintin, so it makes you wonder if he'll be the face and actions of the popular dog that is Tintin's sidekick, Snowy, who is a Wire Fox Terrier. These two main characters in the books and various projects surrounding the story, are inseparable, and help save one another from a number of difficult circumstances throughout their years together.
Tintin's character is a reporter in the story who seeks out adventure around the world. The character, which is wildly popular in parts of Europe and worldwide, was created by Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi, also known as Hergé.
Working on the project for Dreamworks will be Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, who along with Jackson will be producing the movies. Each one of them will direct at least one of films, which will be a trilogy, although no specifics have been released by Dreamworks.
Special effects will be handled by Weta Digital, Peter Jackson's company, and principal shooting is scheduled to start in September 2008.
