I was disappointed when I heard the news that not only The Dead Zone, but also "The 4400" have been cancelled by the USA network. #a#*@&*#. Ok I feel a little better now.
Having gotten over the initial shock, it's a bad move to me. While most of us that enjoy both these shows know that the quality and direction of The Dead Zone had dropped some, although the mystery surrounding what Walt was checking out was interesting, "The 4400" still had a lot of legs left in it, and a solid fan base.
The story was building and getting even better to me. There will probably be a lot of backlash on this one, and a number of boards and fans are already getting some petitions going to keep it on.
With Journeyman gone, and rumors swirling that Battlestar Galactica may possibly getting the axe as well, this is going anger a lot of people; especially Sci Fi fans like myself. Screw the selfish Writers Guild and their strike.
Jeff Wachtel, USA Exec VP Original Programming, said in a statement concerning the axing of Dead Zone and The 4400: "We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever. But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it's with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable."
Concerning The 4400, Series creator Scott Peters added, "We've had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters. Let me raise my metaphorical glass to you all and thank you for being so loyal and so dedicated. I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end."
What are your thoughts on the dropping of both or either one of these shows? Do you think there's a chance they'll be resurrected if people make enough noise about it?
