Scott Garner, who is one of the big reasons behind the success of the Disney Channel, has been picked as the new Senior Vice President, Planning, Scheduling and Acquisitions for Lifetime Networks.
Some of the major hits he's helped engineer are "Hannah Montana," "High School Musical" and "High School Musical 2." Garner was the Senior Vice President, Programming, at the Disney Channel.
Other than the monster hits noted above, he also was a key part of the planning and scheduling of other series like "That's So Raven," "Cory in the House," "Lizzie McGuire," "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" and "The Cheetah Girls."
Along with the Disney Channel, Garner also oversaw all programming content, planning and scheduling for Toon Disney and Playhouse Disney.
He was also in charge of all the digital content programming across all platforms for Disney.
Garner will report directly to Susanne Daniels, President, Entertainment, Lifetime Networks.
At Lifetime he'll be responsible for scheduling for Lifetime Movie Network, Lifetime television and Lifetime Real Women. He'll also oversee acquisitions of movies, along with TV series not connected to the network.
If Garner, who used to be the Director, Research a the Cartoon Network, is able to transfer his skill in serving younger audiences to this demographic, it'll be a huge boon to the Lifetime Network, which is a joint venture between The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS) and The Hearst Corporation.
It seems to me there must be more to this than meets the eye, as it doesn't even seem to be a sideways career move by Garner. He must have been offered a lot of money, as well as strong future considerations not revealed publicly at this time.
