The official name of the studio arm of Walt Disney Co. (DIS) has been now changed to “Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” formerly "Disney-MGM Studios."
Originally the change was scheduled for January 1, 2008, but the process involved took longer than expected.
Disney spokesman Dave Herbst said, “What we want people to understand is the studio’s name has changed. And, with that, there’s difficulty with establishing a date for the ‘official’ change, because there’s a lot of signage. There’s merchandise that is involved, there are all kinds of brochures and informational materials that need to be changed. So today is the official day. But don’t be surprised if you still see ‘Disney-MGM Studios’ in different places. The water tower, for instance, is in the process of being changed.”
Disney has a number of other changes too, specifically at Disney World, where they'll be introducing some new entertainment this year, including "Disney High School Musical 2: School's Out," "Toy Story Mania!" and "Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage!"
