Dorothy Hamill, a former Olympic figure skating gold medalists, announced today that she is being treated for breast cancer at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins.
Hamill, who is still beautiful at 51, was touring with the "Broadway on Ice" company, and is looking to return to the tour when it reaches Fort Lauderdale, Florida on January 16-17. So far her prognosis looks good; that's about all the information being released on her condition at this time.
Replacing Hamill in the show will be another former figure skating gold medal winner: Brian Boitano, who has remained a good friend of Hamill through the years.
Along with winning the Olympic gold medal, Hamill also wond the world championship title in 1976, as well as winning the U.S figure skating title three times.
She turned pro after winning the world title, and joined the Ice Capades in 1977. I had a chance to see her at the Ice Capades, and she was great as ever.
Dorothy is a member of the World and U.S. Figure Skating hall of fame.
