Helen Mirren has powerfully played the role of DCI Jane Tennison on the ITV network series "Prime Suspect" for 15 years (aired for that long), was angered over not being considered for the part in the American version.
Mirren said, "There was once going to be an American version of Prime Suspect and my name was at the bottom of the list to play Jane Tennison.
"I was so furious, I am Jane Tennison!"
Her character eventually grew to become Dectective Superintendent, who was in charge of all the homicide investigations in the London Metropolitan area.
She played the role from 1991 to 1997. Her cult following has grown through the years, so it's somewhat surprising that she wasn't seriously considered for the role.
Mirren won an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actress - Miniseries or Movie" for her role as Jane Tennison.
