The daughter of Harry S. Truman, Margaret Truman, died Tuesday from a brief illnes, according to her son Clifton T. Daniel.
Margaret Truman was a concert singer in her own right, as well as a radio and television host, and a best-selling author.
She married Clifton Daniel Jr., who ended up as managing editor of The New York Times (NYT).
While Margaret had some doors opened to her because of her status as a president's daughter, she fought to develop her life in its own right, and did a good job at it.
I've read a number of Margaret Truman's mystery books, and when doing so, I wasn't aware that she was the daughter of the Harry Truman, which was a big plus for her.
The 23 mystery novels she wrote, were set in the Washington area, and called the “Capital Crime Series.”
Actually Mrs. Daniel, she is survived by three sons and five grandchildren.
