Christian Brando, who had struggled through enormous personal, familial and legal troubles throughout his life, died Saturday of pneumonia at the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles. Brando was 49.
The most notorious incident in Christian Brando's life came when he was was arrested and plead guilty for voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 26-year-old Dag Drollet, who was the companion of his half-sister Cheyenne. Brando had always maintained it was an accident, but it was a front-page media story for months.
Almost unbelievably, he found out his half-sister had all sorts of problems, and he eventually questioned whether her accusations that he had beaten her really ever happened. Cheyenne Brando eventually committed suicide by hanging herself at the age of 25.
He said at the time: "I feel like a complete chump for believing her."
For that crime, Brando ended up being handed a 10-year prison sentence, of which he served almost five years, with another three years of probation.
Brando is survived by his mother and six half- brothers and sisters. His mother was Marlon Brando's first wife Anna Kashfi.
