For 17 years, “The Montel Williams Show” has been a part of the fabric of American television, focusing mostly on social responsibility issues. That will be ending soon, as the final show will air at the end of this season.
"We've been honored to have Montel as part of the CBS family for the past 17 years, and we're very excited that 'Montel' will live on through best-of episodes," said John Nogawski, president of the CBS Television Distribution Group. "Stations continue to embrace Montel and his message of social responsibility that has been the cornerstone of his show."
Those who are "Montel" fans will be able to watch some of his best shows, as CBS TV Distribution has picked it up and is in the process of putting together a "best of" series of "Montel," starting in the fall of 2008. That will air over a 52-week period.
Since the height of the shows viewership in the 1996-97 season, where it landed a 4.4, the show has steadily lost its audience, until now it is averaging a pretty small 1.5 rating from Nielsen on the national level.
Based on an interview last year, Williams may be headed for a career as an actor.
